How to Use Handbrake to Convert Videos on Mac OS X
Not all videos you can transfer to your iPad? Wanna play DVD movies on your iPhone? Use Handbrake to help you. It is a free source Mac Video converter for you to rip DVD, convert video in 3GP, AVI, FLV etc. This tutorial focuses on how to use Handbrake to convert video on Mac so you can watch unaccepted video on your iPad or other devices.
Note: 1. Here is the tutorial on how to use handbrake to convert DVD on Mac. 2. Handbrake can only convert video in several formats and provides only two output format: MKV and MP4, and several presets for iPod, PSP or more (all the output formats are preset as MP4.) And for using the output video on your iPad, iPhone or more, be careful in setting the video resolution, video format and more. Or you can use another Handbrake alternative: iMedia Converter for Mac which provides optimized presets for iPad, iPhone, Xbox 360 and other hot devices so you needn't to set video resolution, bit rate etc by yourself.
Requirements:
Handbrake is free. If you already have Handbrake installed, please check to see if your version is out of date.
Once downloaded, depending on your computer's operating system, you'll be asked to install the program. Follow the directions on your screen and you'll be fine.
Now, you can load videos such as 3GP, AVI, FLV, MKV, MOD, MOV, MP4, MPG, WMV you want to convert.
If a dialog box doesn't open up, click on the icon that says Source and select the videos in you mac which you want to convert.
Note: Not all videos can be imported to convert, and you can only convert video one by one with Handbrake, so if you can not load your videos successfully or wanna have batch conversions to save time, you can use iMedia Converter for Mac.
The way your picture and sound quality will turn out in the resulting file depends on the settings you choose in this step. You could always go with the default settings, but if you'd like more control over the output, here's how to do it.
The Destination section has 3 settings you can modify: file format, codec and file destination.
And you need to decide is what format (MP4, MKV) you'd like the output file to be in. There are some presets that can be found on the Presets Toggle bar, and you can select any one of those, such as those for iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, Xbox, Sony PSP and many more.
Next, you want to choose the destination location. You can name your file and choose its destination using this box. Try to pick a location that has sufficient disk space to store the converted file.
Sometimes video files will have horizontal lines in them. This is called interlacing. To get rid of interlacing, try turning on the Deinterlace option and select "Fast." The image below is animated and will toggle between when the deinterlace option is turned on or off. You can really see the difference around the edge of the flipper.
Remember: the larger the screen size, the larger the file size will be, and hence the more time it will take for Handbrake to convert your files.
Handbrake will attempt to provide you with an ETA. The time will increase if you Pause the encode or do anything that will hog the processor like start a 3D render in Maya. We suggest you do your video conversion overnight or at a time when you don't need to use your computer.
When encoding is finished, quit Handbrake.

1. Download and load videos you want to convert
Download Handbrake: Handbrake 0.9.5 for Mac OS X.Handbrake is free. If you already have Handbrake installed, please check to see if your version is out of date.

Click on the Picture Settings button to launch a separate window. The only thing you really want to do here is to compensate for interlaced or grainy, compressed looking video. 4. use handbrake to convert videos on Mac
Finally! Click on the Start button and stand back. The encoding time will depend on several variables including: the duration of the video file, the speed of your Mac, what other activity your Mac is currently doing, the codec you selected (H264 or MP4) and if you decided to do a 2-pass encoding or not.Handbrake will attempt to provide you with an ETA. The time will increase if you Pause the encode or do anything that will hog the processor like start a 3D render in Maya. 5. Import Into iTunes
- Connect your iPod Video or iPhone to your computer using the cable it came with and open iTunes (Applications > iTunes).
- Drag and drop the video file into your iTunes library, or select Add to Library... from the File menu.
- Make sure the video file you just added to iTunes is in a Playlist that will get synced to your device.
- Select "Sync"

Youtube Videos mit Safari runterladen
..und das ohne Plugin oder Zusatzprogramm. Mit dem Safari Videos bei YouTube und anderen Videoportalen runterzuladen ist ganz einfach. Es bedarf noch nicht mal zusätzlichen Plugins wie z.B. beim Firefox, oder beim Internet Explorer…
Alles was Sie brauchen ist der Safari Browser. Ob Sie einen Mac, oder einen Windows Rechner benutzen, ist egal. Der Safari läuft auf beiden Systemen. Im Beispiel, laden Sie ein Musikvideo von Dj-Germany von YouTube runter und speichern dieses auf Ihre Festplatte.
So geht´s:
1. Video auswählen
Gehen Sie bitte auf die Videoplattform YouTube und suchen Sie sich über die Suchfunktion ein Video Ihrer Wahl aus. Klicken Sie in der Suchliste auf das gewünschte Video um es anzeigen zu lassen.
2. Video runterladen
Jetzt klicken Sie bitte in der oberen Menüleiste des Safaris auf die Schaltfläche Window (Fenster). Im sich nun öffnenden Menü, wählen Sie bitte die Option Activity (Aktivität).
Nachdem sich das Aktivitätsfenster geöffnet hat, sehen Sie das aktuelle YouTube Video im Verlauf des Fensters. Klicken Sie jetzt bitte auf den schwarzen Pfeil links neben dem Video. Jetzt sehen Sie eine Auflistung aller auf der aktuellen YouTube Seite befindlichen Dateien (Videos, Bilder usw..). Durch einen Doppelklick auf die Video Datei (in der Regel, ist das die größte Datei in der Liste), wird das Video automatisch auf Ihre Festplatte geladen.
Im sich nun öffnenden Dialogfenster, können Sie den Fortschritt des Video Downloads mit verfolgen. Sie finden das Video in der Standardeinstellung auf ihrem Desktop (Schreibtisch). Durch einen Klick auf die Lupe (Grafik unten), öffnet sich der Ordner mit der runtergeladenen Videodatei.
3. Video öffnen
Das Video liegt nun ohne Dateinamenserweiterung auf Ihrer Festplatte. Um das Video abspielen zu können, laden Sie sich bitte den Multimedia-Alleskönner VLC-Player runter.
4. Videodatei umbenennen
Im letzten Schritt, müssen Sie nur noch der runtergeladenen Video Datei, die Dateinamenserweiterung .vlc geben. Das machen Sie, indem Sie die Datei mit der rechten Maustaste anwählen und im sich öffnenden Kontextmenü den Eintrag umbenennen auswählen. Ergänzen Sie nun den Dateinamen von get_video, in get_video.vlc. Selbstverständlich, können Sie dem Video auch einen anderen Namen wie z.B. dj-germany.vlc geben. Wichtig ist nur die Ergänzung .vlc.
Ziehen Sie die Datei nun einfach per Drag und Drop in das geöffnete VLC-Player Fenster hinein.

Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), Mystikerin, Medizinerin, Komponistin und politische Beraterin, verspürte den göttlichen Auftrag, ihre Eingebungen niederzuschreiben. 1141 begann sie mit ihrem ersten [und Haupt-]Werk »Scivias« - »Wisse die Wege« [genauer: Liber Scivias Domini (Wisse die Wege des Herrn)].
Weitere mystische Erlebnisse inspirierten sie zu zwei Büchern über die Verantwortung des Menschen und die göttlichen Werke. 1147 las Papst Eugen Ill. einen Teil ihres Werkes und meinte in ihr eine Prophetin zu erkennen. So von der Kirche autorisiert, wandte sie sich ans Volk. Sie predigte in großen Städten wie Trier, Köln oder Würzburg und prangerte die Verweltlichung des Klerus und die sinkende Moral an. Neben ihren theologischen Abhandlungen interessierte sie sich für medizinische bzw. naturwissenschaftliche Fragen. Sie schrieb über Krankheitsursachen sowie Behandlungsmethoden, ihre Anweisungen verrieten auch umfassende Kenntnisse natürlicher Heilmittel. Nebenbei betätigte Hildegard sich als Komponistin und verfasste geistliche Gesänge. Außerdem bezeugen rund 300 Briefe, dass sie mächtige Männer wie Fürsten oder den Papst beriet.

Heute vor 300 Jahren: Die Geburt Friedrichs des Großen

Heute jährt sich der Geburtstag von Friedrich II. (1712-1786), auch Friedrich der Große, Preußenkönig oder Alter Fritz genannt, zum 300. Mal. Er gilt als der Preuße schlechthin, doch die viel beschworenen preußischen Tugenden suchte man bei ihm vergebens.

So war beispielsweise Sparsamkeit nicht seine Stärke: Friedrich errichtete von allen preußischen Königen die teuersten Bauten. Aufrichtigkeit zeichnete ihn ebenfalls nicht aus. So war der Überraschungsangriff auf Österreich 1740 eher ein Vabanquespiel als ehrliche Politik. Dafür hatte er andere Qualitäten: Er war Querdenker, pragmatischer Staatsmann und Künstler. Die Forschung sieht seine große Leistung darin, dass er es wie kein anderer geschafft habe, sein eigenes Image zu kreieren, d. h. das Bild, das sich die Nachwelt von ihm machen sollte, habe er selbst bestimmt.

Das geht ja auf keine Kuhhaut!

Die Redewendung »Das geht ja auf keine Kuhhaut« hat ihren Ursprung im Mittelalter und im Glauben an einen Teufel mit Buchhaltermentalität. Die Menschen hatten die Vorstellung, dass der Teufel ihnen nach dem Tod, am Tag des jüngsten Gerichts, all ihre Sünden aufzeigen würde, und zwar anhand einer Liste, die er vorher penibel gefertigt hatte.
Die Redewendung »Das geht ja auf keine Kuhhaut« hat ihren Ursprung im Mittelalter und im Glauben an einen Teufel mit Buchhaltermentalität. Die Menschen hatten die Vorstellung, dass der Teufel ihnen nach dem Tod, am Tag des jüngsten Gerichts, all ihre Sünden aufzeigen würde, und zwar anhand einer Liste, die er vorher penibel gefertigt hatte.
Um den Überblick nicht zu verlieren, schrieb er alle Sünden eines Menschen – ob große, ob kleine – auf einem aus Kuhhaut gefertigten Pergament nieder. Also das Sündenregister und das schlechte Gewissen manifestiert auf einer Tierhaut – hier ist die deutsche Gründlichkeit bereits greifbar. Kamen dann aber während eines Lebens so viele Sünden zusammen, dass selbst die große Kuhhaut keinen Platz mehr bot, war das Maß überschritten. Und so ist es dann auch heute noch, wenn etwas unerträglich oder viel zu viel ist und eben nicht mal mehr auf eine ganze Kuhhaut geht. Übrigens: Eine ausgewachsene Kuh ist ca. 2,50 m lang, 1,50 m hoch und 80 cm breit – insgesamt sind es also ungefähr 4 m2 Kuhhaut.

Mir hat – abgesehen von seinem Gold-Lauf bei den Olympischen Spielen 1992 – dieser Lauf am besten gefallen, weil sich Baumann zu keinem Zeitpunkt durch die Tempowechsel der Afrikaner aus der Ruhe bringen ließ, während der Amerikaner Kennedy sie mitmachte – und später dafür Tribut zahlen mußte. Baumann machte sein Tempo, wohl wissend, daß er – obwohl so schnell wie vorher nie in seiner Karriere – gegenüber den Schwarzafrikanern keine Chance hatte. Er lief – fast – alleine und wurde mit einem vierten Platz belohnt. Am Tag nach der Festnahme untersucht ihn ein Ärzteteam: Blutdruck und Herzschlag normal, die zahlreichen Exzeme auf der Haut harmlos, vermutlich stammen sie von Moskitostichen. Yokoi Shoichi wiegt nur noch 41 Kilo, sein Kopf wirkt riesig im Vergleich zum Rest des ausgemergelten Körpers. Später stellen die Mediziner Blutarmut und Vitamin-B-Mangel fest, aber falls wirklich stimmt, was der bärtige Mann im Zentralkrankenhaus der Pazifikinsel Guam behauptet, kommt sein Gesundheitszustand einem Wunder gleich.

Abercrombie, Fakes und real existierender Kapitalismus
Die verlinkte Seite, angeblich zu Abercrombie, ist ein Fake.
Bei Online-Einkäufen sollte auf
- Rechtschreibfehler,
- eine real existierende Adresse und
- Bewertungen im Internet geachtet werden.
Vorsicht ist auch geboten, wenn in den Geschäftsbedingungen festgelegt ist, daß der Käufer die Rücksendekosten zu tragen hat.
In Internet-Diskussionsseiten habe ich die Info gefunden, daß außerhalb der USA nichts von Abercrombie & Fitch online zu kaufen ist. Der erste Laden in Deutschland hat gerade in Düsseldorf aufgemacht. Auch hier gibt es schon ein Fake: beachte das Deutsch bei Punkt »Preise und Versand«.
Auf Kaufen.com gibt es zwei Links zu Abercrombie & Finch (nicht Fitch!). Ab der Ebay-Shop echt ist, vermag ich nicht zu sagen, die Internet-Diskussion ist da uneinheitlich.

»Nein, hier geht es nicht um die originellsten Apps, die anfangs Spaß machen, nach einer Weile aber wie ein kratzender Pulli im Kleiderschrank liegenbleiben. Zum Start ins neue Jahr habe ich ausgemistet. Erstaunlich: von rund 300 Apps sind am Ende gerade mal 33 Apps übrig geblieben, die ich tatsächlich regelmäßig nutze. Zur besseren Übersicht habe ich diese in 3 Bereiche eingeteilt – jeweils 11 Apps pro Kategorie.«

Mad Ray Cooper
Ein Musikstück, welches ich zur Zeit ziemlich oft höre und das ich auch gern – obwohl die Soundqualität etwas eingeschränkt ist – als youtube-Video sehe ist die »Something«-Version auf dem »Concert for George«:

Ray Cooper (* 19. August 1942 in Watford, Hertfordshire) ist ein englischer Perkussionist.
Er arbeitete als Studio- und Live-Musiker mit Bands und Künstlern wie Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Sting, Phil Collins, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Peter Maffay und Elton John. Sein exzentrisches, bisweilen ausgeflipptes Auftreten auf der Bühne brachte ihm den Spitznamen „Mad Ray Cooper“ ein.
Coopers Karriere begann in den 1960er Jahren mit Aufnahmen der Band The Who. Es folgten Produktionen mit Carly Simon, David Essex und Blue Mink. Bekannt wurde er durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Elton John, bei dem er auf fast allen Alben aus den 1970er Jahren mitwirkte. Auch auf dem Live Aid-Konzert 1985 gehörte er zu dessen Begleitband. Am 29. November 2002 nahm er als Musiker und Mitproduzent am Gedenkkonzert für seinen Freund George Harrison teil. 2009 arbeitete Cooper mit Peter Maffay, 2010 erneut mit Elton John. #7 - Philadelphia Freedom - Elton John & Ray Cooper - Live in Herning 2010 {6:23}

Finally a show from Denmark with reasonable sound quality and that I attended! It's from Herning 9th of December 2010 during the Ray Cooper tour. The show is about 50 % complete, but has almost 1½ hour of music and on Bennie And The Jets there is some muffling.
Instead of talking about (or writing about) the show, I've attached this fan report which describes the whole show. The picture is from the very show!
Elton and Ray! What more to ask for? I've got tickets on row 7 on the floor, with an awesome sight to Elton and Ray. I was so excited about what the night would bring and I knew, this was going to be a night to remember.
Elton entered the stage during Aida-music at 8 pm sharp and the audience rose when they saw the shape of Elton. Elton sat down in front of the piano and started to play the hit "The One". After "The One" Elton thanked us and he said, that he was honoured to be here because it was his first time in Herning.
Elton introduced some songs from the album "Elton John", which came out 40 years ago. Elton played a powerful version of "Sixty Years On" and a beautiful rendition of "The Greatest Discovery" and right from that moment I was not in doubt: this gig would be extraordinary.
Elton introduced "Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes" and told the audience, about the conditions during the government of Ronald Reagan which did absolutely nothing for people with AIDS, which Elton called a disgrace. He played the song with emotions and anger at the same time and made a beautiful edition of the song.
Afterwards Elton talked about "The Union", which he made with his dear friend Leon Russell and started to play "When Love Is Dying" which was the first time I've heard that live. Good to hear that Elton still can make gems of his own!
The next song was "I Guess that's Why They Call It the Blues", which he made up very bluesy and added another solo between the verses. The audience couldn't stop rocking. Then Elton played "Nikita" and what a blast! The audience gave Elton a big applause, when they heard the first lines of the song. Now the hits came streaming.
"Rocket Man". Breathless! What a solo version of the song! The audience made up a loud applause for Elton and he really deserved it. Elton went back to "The Union" and started to play "Never Too Old" and I really liked that song - and the rest of the audience seemed to do as well. Elton switched out the piano sound with a bluesy, electric piano sound and started to play "Philadelphia Freedom", which I really couldn't keep clapping to. "Tiny Dancer" and "Your Song" were both phenomenal and now Ray Cooper entered the stage:
Ray Cooper appeared on stage, when Elton played "Funeral For A Friend" and we couldn't stop laughing at Ray's funny moves. "Funeral for a Friend" faded out into "Tonight. "Better off Dead" and "Levon" made the arena boiling and now people seemed to have fun. Elton played a third song from "The Union" now with Ray Cooper on percussion. Elton played the song "Gone to Shiloh", which is about the American Civil War and with Bernie Taupin's beautiful lyrics this was a very memorial moment. "Indian Sunset" showed off, that Elton's voice's still better than ever and "I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself" with a western-saloon sound on the piano showed off that Elton's still at the top! Take Me To The Pilot with a 7 minute intro?! Probably one of the longest intros for that song. "Don't Let the Sun Go down on Me" was fantastic.
Now Elton asked the fans to come up in front of the stage. People ran up there and the first chord of "Bennie and the Jets" was making the entire arena screaming. Oh My God! What a rendition! Elton played the "In the Mood" part the best he could and he played it like never before with a little bit of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer! Crazy Water was making the climax on the show and when he finished the song he left the stage.
Elton came back and started to sign autographs. Elton went all across the stage signing and of course I got my autograph. After that Elton thanked the audience for being so kind to him and he said that he'd always loved coming to Denmark. Elton wished us a happy Christmas and a happy new year. Then the sound of "Candle in the Wind" came into our ears. Beautiful, breath-taking, unbelievable. Elton left the stage and the concert was over.

Was ein lustiger Spruch alles bewirken kann
Misburg. Ein ganz normaler Dienstag im Kurt-Schwitters-Gymnasium. Für die Klasse 8b geht es in der letzten Stunde um die schlechte Finanzlage der Gemeinden. Das alltägliche Verhalten der Schüler – der Lehrer schreibt etwas an die Tafel, und die Schüler wollen es abschreiben. So auch an diesem Tag! Als Politiklehrer Dirk Ahrens aber dazu auffordert, zuerst zuzuhören, mitzudenken und dann erst abzuschreiben, bricht es aus Erik Nikolov (12) hervor: »Ich denke gern!«. Großes Gelächter. Selbst der Lehrer kann sich nicht mehr einkriegen und fordert die Klasse dazu auf, sich doch T-Shirts mit einer solchen Aufschrift zu besorgen. Was er da noch nicht ahnt: Die Klasse hat wirklich vor, diesen scherzhaft gemeinten Vorschlag in die Tat umzusetzen. Die Idee kommt von Mahsa Allami (13). Sie organisiert das, sammelt von jedem Schüler 4,80€ ein und bittet Ayleen Seitz (13), die Shirts zu besorgen.
Dank ›Facebook‹ können die Schüler einen Termin für die Präsentation der T-Shirts vereinbaren. Sie einigen sich auf Donnerstag, 15. Dezember. Der Tag, an dem eine Englisch-Arbeit bei Herrn Ahrens ansteht. Die ganze Klasse kommt mit »Ich denke gern«-Shirts in die Schule und wartet gespannt. Als der Lehrer dann reinkommt, vergisst er fast seine Klassenarbeit. Er hört nicht mehr auf zu lachen. Vor ihm steht eine fröhliche Klasse, alle in den gleichen T-Shirts und mit einer solchen Aufschrift! Gut gelaunt schreibt die Klasse die Arbeit, macht Gruppenfotos und freut sich auf die Gesichter ihrer Mitschüler aus den anderen Klassen.

Wer Schmetterlinge lachen hört,
der weiß, wie Wolken schmecken. Der wird im Mondschein, ungestört von Furcht, die Nacht entdecken.
Der wird zur Pflanze, wenn er will;
zum Tier, zum Narr, zum Weisen. Und kann in einer Stunde durchs ganze Weltall reisen.
Der weiß, daß er nichts weiß,
wie alle andern auch nichts wissen. Nur weiß er, was die anderen, und er noch lernen müssen.
Wer in sich fremde Ufer spürt,
und Mut hat sich zu recken; der wird allmählich, ungestört von Furcht, sich selbst entdecken.
Abwärts zu den Gipfeln
seiner selbst blickt er hinauf.
Den Kampf mit seiner Unterwelt
nimmt er gelassen auf.
Wer Schmetterlinge lachen hört,

Wer mit sich selbst in Frieden lebt,
der wird genauso sterben und ist selbst dann lebendiger als alle seine Erben. |
Qui entend rire des papillons,

Il devient une plante, s'il veut;
un animal, un fou, un sage.
Et, dans une heure, il peut
voyager par tout l'univers.
Il sait qu'il ne sait rien,
comme tous les autres ne savent rien non plus.
Mais il sait ce que les autres,
et lui même doivent apprendre encore.
Qui sent les bords étrangers dans lui-même,
et a le courage à s'étirer;
petit à petit, sans être dérangé
par la crainte, il va découvrir soi-même.
En bas aux sommets
de lui-même, il regarde vers le haut.
La lutte contre sa pègre
il prend tranquillement.
Qui entend rire des papillons,
il sait le goût des nuages.
Au clair de la lune,
sans être dérangé
par la crainte, il va découvrir la nuit.
Qui vit en paix avec lui-même,
il va mourir au même titre
et même dans ce cas il est plus vivant
que tous ses héritiers.
