Auch als militärischer Chef der Allianz tauschte der amerikanische Viersternegeneral seine blaue Luftwaffenuniform gegen die Motorradkluft und erkundete zusammen mit Kameraden Europa.
Breite Schultern, breiter Gang, noch breiteres Grinsen - so zeigen ihn Fotos von den Spritztouren, die seit Kurzem auf der Enthüllungsplattform DC Leaks zu finden sind. Zurückhaltung war Breedloves Sache nie.
Die Fotos sind der unterhaltsame Teil einer ansonsten hochbrisanten Sammlung von Breedloves privatem E-Mail-Verkehr. Ein Großteil der insgesamt 1096 gehackten Mails datiert aus den dramatischen zwölf Monaten der Ukrainekrise nach der russischen Annexion der Krim im März 2014. Tausende starben in den Gefechten zwischen Kiews Truppen und moskautreuen Separatisten; über zwei Millionen Zivilisten flohen aus der Ostukraine.

Der Konflikt spielt sich vielmehr zwischen den Militärs im Zentralkommando und den Zuträgern von Informationen ab, den so genannten Analysten, von denen 1.500 im Centcom-Hauptquartier in Tampa, Florida, arbeiten. Im gegenwärtigen Machtkampf zwischen der militärischen Centcom-Führungsebene und den Analysten geht es um Informationen zum US-Krieg gegen den IS im Irak und in Syrien. Darum, wie etwa die syrische Opposition eingeschätzt wird. Oder wie es um die Möglichkeit steht, eine von den USA finanzierte und mit Waffen unterstützte Bodentruppe aus "moderaten Rebellen" aufzustellen. Wie die Resultate des Bombenkriegs gegen den IS, was etwa die Öleinnahmen der Dschihadisten betrifft, aussehen. Wie generell die US-Strategie im Kampf gegen den IS einzuschätzen ist, etc.
Bekannt ist mittlerweile, dass das 500 Millionen Dollar teure US-Programm zum Aufbau einer Bodentruppe aus syrischen Oppositionellen als peinliches Fiasko endete (US-Programm zur Ausbildung von syrischen Kämpfern gescheitert, Vom Pentagon ausgebildete syrische Kämpfer übergeben ihre Waffen an al-Nusra). Bemerkenswert ist, dass das Pentagon bis zuletzt daran festhielt, wie ein Bericht des US-Magazins Daily Beast noch einmal bestätigt.
Dies zeigt eine gewisse Hartnäckigkeit und Sturheit in der Verfolgung eigener Pläne und Vorstellungen an, die sich von der Realität auf dem Boden stark unterscheiden. 50 Analysten aus den obersten Rängen, die für Centcom arbeiteten, hatten dann im Oktober 2015 genug von dieser Haltung.
Sie beschwerten sich beim Generalinspekteur des Pentagon darüber, dass abweichende Geheimdienstinfos unterdrückt würden und gar manipuliert. Das militärische Kommando im Centcom würde nur passende Infos zulassen.
Schon zuvor, im August 2015, hatte die New York Times berichtet, dass Geheimdienstinformationen zur Analyse der Bombenangriffe gegen den IS im Irak manipuliert und "schön gefärbt" würden. Im September stellte sich dann heraus, dass Gregory Hooker, der Anführer der widerspenstigen Analysten, schon im Irakkrieg unter George W.Bush als ungeliebter Störenfried aufgefallen war. Das paßt ungefähr in die gleiche Schublade wie die Aussage eines US-Militärexperten zum Great Men Made River Project in Libyen:

WOW: Hacked emails show NATO general Breedlove plotting US war against Russia [1:47]

Hacked private emails of the US general formerly in charge of NATO reveal a campaign to pressure the White House into escalating the conflict with Russia over Ukraine, involving several influential players in Washington.
The emails, posted by the site DCLeaks, show correspondence between General Philip M. Breedlove, former head of the US European Command and supreme commander of NATO forces, with several establishment insiders concerning the situation in Ukraine following the February 2014 coup that ousted the elected government in favor of a US-backed regime.
Breedlove served as the NATO Supreme Commander between May 2013 and March 2016. His personal email incorporated his Air Force call sign “Bwana” – a Swahili word for “boss.”
The hacked emails reveal his frequent and intense communications with retired General Wesley Clark, as well as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and involving a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, State Department official Victoria Nuland, and US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt.
Clark, who commanded NATO during the 1999 war in Yugoslavia, reached out to Breedlove in April 2014. On April 8, he forwarded “intelligence” obtained by Anatoly Pinchuk and Dmitry Tymchuk, activists close to the new regime, claiming a Russian invasion was in the works.

The information was conveyed by Phillip Karber, an ex-Marine and president of the Potomac Foundation, whom Clark calls a “colleague” and “our guy.” Karber wrote about observing the Russian border from inside a Ukrainian tank, and eagerly transmitted Tymchuk and Pinchuk’s calls for support. Contacted by The Intercept on Friday, Karber confirmed the authenticity of several emails in the leaked cache.
Reporting on his meeting with Ambassador Pyatt on April 6, Karber wrote: “State is the one trying to be pro-active and recognizes need to do more faster,” while General Martin Dempsey – at that point the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff – was “dragging his feet in order to save [military] relations with Russians.”
In an email dated April 12, Clark referred to his exchange with “Toria” Nuland – the assistant secretary of state for Europe and Eurasia, who personally backed the Ukrainian revolution – pushing for open US support for the regime in Ukraine to use force against protesters in the east. Prior to the coup, Washington had strongly warned Kiev not to use force against the anti-government demonstrators in the city.
Kiev’s summer “anti-terrorist operation” ended in crushing defeat in August, and the first armistice between the government and rebels was signed in Minsk in September. Meanwhile, the so-called Islamic State jihadist group arose in Iraq and Syria, drawing US attention away from Eastern Europe with gruesome beheadings of Westerners. Frustrated by the White House’s reluctance to back his belligerent agenda in Ukraine, Breedlove reached out to Powell, a retired general and former secretary of state.
“I seek your counsel on two fronts,.... how to frame this opportunity in a time where all eyes are on ISIL all the time,... and two,... how to work this personally with the POTUS,” Breedlove wrote to Powell in September 2014. Powell’s response was not made available.

Breedlove was introduced to Powell by Harlan Ullman, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and the author of the “shock and awe” doctrine used by the Bush administration in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
In October 2014, Ullman urged Breedlove to reach out to Vice President Joe Biden. Aside from Powell, Ullman wrote, “I know of no better way of getting into 1600,” referring to the White House’s address on Pennsylvania Avenue.
In November, Ullman also suggested Breedlove should get together with David O'Sullivan, the new EU envoy to Washington. Noting that Europe “seems to be a six letter expletive in the White House,” Ullman adds that “perhaps quiet collaboration between him and NATO (SecGen) as well might be useful.”
“Obama or Kerry needs to be convinced that Putin must be confronted,” Ullman wrote in February 2015, before the ‘Minsk II’ talks.
He also gave Breedlove pointers on getting into the good graces of Ash Carter, the new Defense Secretary. “I would take or pretend to take careful notes. Ash is an academic. And he is trained that students who take good notes rise to be A grades. This may be maskarova. But it is useful maskarova,” Ullman wrote, misspelling the Russian word for camouflage (maskirovka).

The theme of the Olympics was that Russia is a progressive state tied to the West through its culture and, therefore, it presumably wants to be part of it. So it doesn’t make any sense that a week after the close of the Olympics, Putin would take Crimea and start a war over Ukraine. So one has to ask oneself, Why did it happen?
SPIEGEL. What you’re saying is that the West has at least a kind of responsibility for the escalation?
KISSINGER. Yes, I am saying that. Europe and America did not understand the impact of these events, starting with the negotiations about Ukraine’s economic relations with the European Union and culminating in the demonstrations in Kiev. All these, and their impact, should have been the subject of a dialogue with Russia. This does not mean the Russian response was appropriate.

TOP US COMMANDER: RUSSIA WANTS TO 'REWRITE' INTERNATIONAL ORDER - 25 Feb - The era of trying to work with Russia is over, the top U.S. commander in Europe said Thursday while arguing for the rebuilding of U.S. forces in that region.
“Russia does not want to challenge the agreed rules of the international order,” Gen. Philip Breedlove told the House Armed Services Committee. “It wants to rewrite them.”
Breedlove was on Capitol Hill defending the Pentagon’s budget request for fiscal 2017, which includes a fourfold increase in funding for the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) to deter an aggressive Russia.
The increase would bring the initiative's funding to $3.4 billion.

Wenn ich den Ausdruck »gesicherte Geheimdienst-Informationen« höre, wird mir schon übel! Obama müßte eigentlcic vor Wut weiße Haare kriegen, daß er von seinen hochrangigen Militärs manipulierte Informationen erhält!

Das die beiden gestört sind, steht für mich außer Zweifel, bei Gaddafi ist es nur mehr aufgefallen…
Noch was: Wenn Medien wie Telepolis oder Russia Today diese Informationen nicht veröffentlichen würden, wie wahrscheinlich wäre es, daß wir vom SPIEGEL davon erfahren würden?
